Current Energies
Here we talk about New Moons, Full Moons, eclipses, retrogrades and other shifts in planetary energies that influence each of us.
New Moon in Sagittarius 12*19*25
It's amazing to think we are at the final New Moon of the year, but here we are. On Friday evening, the Sun and Moon will meet at 28 degrees of Sagittarius. New Moons are times of initiation, of new beginnings of things that are under the purview of that sign. For Sagittarius, this includes beliefs, morality, and ethics. Sagittarius is the mutable fire sign. Like its sister fire signs, Aries and Leo, it is oriented towards the "big picture" and motivated by ideals. Like all mutable signs, there is a tendency for restlessness.
The symbol for Sagittarius is the arrow notched in the bow, drawn back and ready to be set free to explore new territory. Sagittarius is here to push boundaries, expand awareness, and grow beyond what is known. The preceding sign, Scorpio, is here to plumb the inner depths of emotions. After all this interior investigation, Sagittarius shifts the focus to the world at large. Sagittarius is not interested so much in having vast amounts of knowledge - that is more in line with its Gemini complement.
Sag wants to deeply understand the world it inhabits by exploring new places, people, and ideas. It is looking for ways to expand its understanding of how the world operates, and more importantly, how it should operate. Sagittarius wants to move beyond the accepted boundaries - what is known - and increase the cache of what is understood in order to inform and enhance the human experience.
Full Moon in Gemini 12*4*25
Thursday evening is the last Full Moon of the year. The Sun at 13 degrees of Sagittarius is opposite the Moon at 13 degrees of Gemini. The essence of this Full Moon is change. Gemini and Sagittarius are mutable signs. In addition to the Sun, Mars and Venus are both in Sagittarius, although not close enough to the Sun to be making a conjunction. And, Saturn and Neptune are making their final pass through mutable sign Pisces before moving forward into Aries in early 2026. With six planets in mutable signs, things are unsettled and shifting. Mutable energy prevails during times of change, as one condition, project, or situation is ending and another is getting ready to begin. Mutable energy is the realm of "no longer, but not yet." Let's unpack it.
Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius/Scorpio November*2025
Mercury's final retrograde of 2025 starts Sunday, November 9, and lasts until Friday, November 28. Mercury follows a pattern of retrograding through signs of the same element during a year so we can explore all the ways we receive information and what we do with it. Mercury is the planet of information processing and communication.
This year's retrogrades have started in fire signs and ended in water signs. We start by revisiting the ideals and passions from the previous fire sign retrograde and end up being aware of the emotional aspects of them.
Full Moon in Sagittarius 6*11*25
Wednesday, in the wee, wee hours of the morning, the Moon at 20 degrees of Sagittarius was opposite the Sun at 20 degrees of Gemini, forming a Full Moon. The Gemini- Sagittarius axis deals with ideas, logic, and data (Gemini) and ideals, beliefs, and philosophy (Sagittarius). Sagittarius takes the information Gemini provides and expands it. Both are mutable signs which makes them restless and curious. Sun in airy Gemini likes learning, conversation, and socialization. Moon in fiery Sagittarius is looking for inspiration, fun, and adventure.
This Full Moon will shine a light on your beliefs…You are being pushed to bring your guiding principles into your awareness…Included here are your beliefs about yourself.
Full Moon in Gemini 12*15*24
The last Full Moon of 2024 happens right before dawn on Sunday morning when the Moon at 24 degrees of Gemini will be opposite the Sun at 24 degrees of Sagittarius. Full Moons are times of culmination. We are shown something that was previously not available to our awareness. Things come to light. From that place of new awareness, we are better able to see the bigger picture surrounding the area of life being highlighted by the signs and planets involved in the Full Moon.
The Sagittarius - Gemini axis deals with beliefs, growth, communication, and connection. This energy opens the door to conversations that explore different perspectives. Neptune at 27 degrees of Pisces is forming a T-square with the Sun and Moon. T-squares are challenging and bring frustration from competing goals. The Sun is the material, the Moon deals with the emotional, and Neptune in Pisces adds the spiritual aspect of our common humanity. The T-square is showing these three aspects are not meshing well right now because they are competing. Consider what would be different if these aspects collaborated to build connection within yourself and with others. The key is to…
New Moon in Sagittarius 12*1*24
December starts off with a New Moon in Sagittarius. The Sun and the Moon will meet at 9 degrees of Sagittarius. This New Moon amplifies the energy of Mercury's retrograde in Sagittarius which started November 25. Mercury is drawing attention to beliefs that need to be reviewed for possible revision, including beliefs about ourselves. Saturn at 12 degrees of Pisces is forming a challenging aspect (a square) to the Sun/Moon. Saturn is the planet of reality checks and discipline. With Saturn squaring the Sun/Moon, we will be shown where competing priorities cause tension within us. Are you being honest with yourself?
Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius 11*25 - 12*15*24
The final Mercury retrograde of 2024 is on the horizon. Mercury has been retrograding through fire signs this year. Fire signs are enthusiastic, optimistic and idealistic. When Mercury retrograded through Aries in April, themes of how we assert ourselves and get our needs met were highlighted. In July, Mercury started its retrograde in Virgo and quickly moved into Leo, where the way we viewed and expressed our leadership was addressed. Now, in Sagittarius, our beliefs and how we demonstrate them are the focus. This is the time to take a hard honest look at your beliefs. One of the hallmarks of Mercury retrograde is not having all the information needed to make a firm commitment or decision. Something is initially withheld from your consciousness. It usually comes to light around the middle of the retrograde cycle, here on December 5. This Mercury retrograde offers the opportunity to reflect on what is true for you, based on your experiences and values.
