Full Moon in Sagittarius 5*31*26
Just before dawn on Sunday morning, we will have the second Full Moon of May. The first one, with the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Scorpio, happened on May 1. Now we have Sun in Gemini opposite Moon in Sagittarius, both at just shy of 10 degrees of their respective signs. Full Moons are times of revelation. This axis is about communication and connection (Gemini) and finding deeper meaning that can be applied to life resulting a new, more expansive perspective (Sagittarius). Knowledge (Gemini) becomes wisdom (Sagittarius) - at least that's one potential offered here.
The end of April Uranus moved into Gemini where it will stay for the next 7 years. It is generally agreed that this will "shake up" how we communicate with each other based on Uranian energy being disruptive and Gemini's focus on acquiring and disseminating information. But I think it's more than that. Gemini is the archetype of the networker/student - eager to learn, curious, wanting to share information to build social connection. Gemini gathers information from wider and wider sources.
One of the shadows of Gemini is lack of discernment. It takes information at face value and assumes it is accurate. This can lead to contradictions and rapid shifts in the narrative. That is why Gemini has a reputation for duplicity. Gemini, as the mutable air sign, values movement. It is a dispersive energy. Sitting with information (or anything, really) so it can be evaluated carefully is not part of Gemini's nature. That is more for the earth and fixed signs, like Taurus, Scorpio, and Virgo.
Sagittarius is the archetype of the philosopher. It takes the information, the interactions that Gemini is so good at fostering, and considers it in the context of ideals, beliefs, moral frameworks, and philosophical exchanges. It takes knowledge and overlays it on lived experience (both personal and in the collective), in order to understand on deeper levels. Gemini likes to know. Sagittarius wants to understand.
Discernment can also be a shadow for Sagittarius. Sag is the mutable fire sign, so it is motivated by ideals. Fire signs are all about how things "should" be. In this expression, it can assume its assessment of life is the correct one. It becomes loyal to a belief system. I know, it seems to go against the mutable nature of the sign, but Sagittarius can be enamored of dogma. That version of Sagittarius is committed to the framework created while it was processing information and learning and expands it into different arenas of lived experience. Its perspective for interpreting life is anchored into that framework. While it is going deeper, following its natural expression, it is using a belief system in a way that does not truly allow for growth. This is the "true believer", who sees things through only one lens.
Full Moons are about achieving balance between two expressions. Gemini uses information as currency to build social connection. Sagittarius uses information to create wisdom and internal coherence that can bridge differences. Are you balancing your critical thinking skills with the desire to form friendships or keep the peace? Do you assess sources of information for accuracy? Do your own research? Question assumptions? Allow your own conclusions to have a voice? Conversations and sharing one's point of view open windows into another's perception of the world. This is wonderful and powerful. It generates understanding, helps break down silos and seeks common ground. That said, not all windows offer a view worth engaging with.
We all know that facts and beliefs are not the same. But sometimes they become entangled and hard to separate. Neptune's transit through Pisces for the past 14 years fostered this entanglement. "Facts" became colored with illusion and alternative narratives. Neptune in Pisces loves a good fantasy. But now, Neptune, along with reality check planet Saturn, is in Aries. This energy is very different. The illusions of the Pisces years are being burned off in the light of Aries' fire. This Full Moon will illuminate the difference between data (Gemini) and beliefs (Sagittarius). What concepts are you holding onto out of habit? When is the last time you paused long enough to evaluate if they were still valid or if your lived experience contradicted them? What story are you telling? What version of you is it reinforcing? Is that who you still are? Want to be? Aspire to be?
It can be helpful to give your beliefs a voice. Speak them aloud and notice how they land. "I believe..." Where in your body do you feel the resonance or lack thereof? Be curious about that. Chiron at the final degree of Aries through June is amplifying the ways you play small and quest for acceptability through self-denial and disappearing. This is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge those patterns and rewrite that script. The Moon in Sagittarius finds emotional fulfillment in exploring different internal landscapes. Play with them. See where they lead. Gemini and Sagittarius are mutable signs. They thrive on options. You don't need to commit to any particular course, but consider alternatives for yourself.
This Full Moon challenges us to balance critical thinking with the information we receive through all the different sources "out there". Are you doing your own research? Are you exploring alternative points of view? In your relationships, are you accessing curiosity (Gemini's superpower) rather than judgement? How do you react when your buttons get pushed? What other options are available to you? What are you receiving from the collective? Can you discern what is pertinent for you and leave the rest?
What is the quality of your communications with others? How are you using information? How do you connect with others in your local groups and neighborhoods? Pluto in Aquarius highlights relationships of mutual support rather than the transactional, hierarchical structure that prevailed during its travels through Capricorn. This is a good time to assess the communities you are part of and the contribution you make to them and receive from them. Do you have local connections you can rely on? Can you be counted on to show up for others? Is the give and take balanced?
All of us are being affected by these energies in one way or another. While we can look back at history and get a feel for what happened in the past when Pluto was in Aquarius or Neptune was in Aries, we have never had this combination of outer planets shifting at the same time into these configurations. We are in the midst of transformation. We are creating something entirely new. Each of us is offering our unique energy to this new world. The question is whether we are doing so deliberately or through default. What do you chose to contribute?
"Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we talk about our feelings they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone." ~ Fred Rogers
