New Moon in Pisces 3*18*26

Wednesday night's New Moon in Pisces marks the end of 2026's first eclipse season. Eclipse seasons start with the lunation before the first eclipse and end at the lunation after the second eclipse. This eclipse season ran from February 1's Full Moon in Leo, followed by February 17's Solar Eclipse in Aquarius, and March 3rd Lunar Eclipse in Virgo. Wednesday's New Moon is also the last New Moon to fall in the final degrees of the sign it is in. As was noted previously, all the New Moons since September's Solar Eclipse in Virgo have been at 28-29 degrees of the signs they are in. These final degrees signify the ending of patterns associated with the themes of the respective sign. Now we are at the last degrees of the last sign of the zodiac. The theme of closure and completion is strong here. The Spring equinox two days later marks the beginning of the astrological year. It will bring in energy with very different quality than what we have been experiencing since January. This New Moon is the opportunity to clear away the dead wood, the old patterns, beliefs, feelings or perspectives that have no place in these new energies.

The New Moon has Sun and Moon at 28 degrees of Pisces. They are joined by Mercury, still retrograde until March 20, at 8 degrees and Mars at 12 degrees, so a fair amount of Pisces energy still prevails.  Pisces is the mutable water sign. Like all water signs, Pisces processes the world through emotions. Because it is a mutable sign, it is connected to the emotions of the collective, of society at large. Right now, the collective feels unsettled, to put it mildly. Pisces, as the final sign of the zodiac, takes the accumulated experiences of the other 11 signs and adds a layer of spirituality. Pisces recognizes that understanding our life experiences solely through the mind provides incomplete information. Fire signs need to understand the ideals that underlie the bigger vision; earth signs need to ground life experiences in the body. Air signs need to make intellectual sense of the experience. But water signs feel the experience of life. Pisces has a direct line to the wisdom that transcends what can be seen, touched, discussed, and envisioned. Ruled by Neptune, Pisces is where everything we thought we knew is stripped down to its essence. And that essence is connection and unity. Like the vast ocean that all waves are part of, each individual is part of something much bigger.

Typically, New Moons mean new beginnings. This lunation has a different flavor. It is the threshold that must be crossed to reach the new beginning the Spring equinox on March 20 initiates.  For the past six months, there have been consistent opportunities for each of us to realize which of structures we have built our lives around are actually working and which ones are not. We have been asked to honestly assess what we need to feel secure and fulfilled and if our work, our relationships, our beliefs, and our understanding of our purpose are moving us forward or keeping us stuck. This lunation is the time to make peace with letting go of the old patterns that have been revealing themselves as ineffective and incoherent with the version of ourselves that we say we want to be.

That version, the one that is centered, focused, and grounded; the one that shows up on your best days; the one that is unfuckwithable, is not a fantasy. That version exists. The times when you have embodied this expression of you felt wonderful. Pisces energy also knows that this version exists and it is just as available as all the other "yous". This New Moon is asking each of us to pause and consider what conditions distract us, causing us to temporarily forget what we truly want? Which excuses do we default to? Whose favor are we trying to earn? Why? At what cost?

Uranus at 28 degrees of Taurus is making a tight, easy aspect (a sextile) to the Sun/Moon. Uranus is the planet of disruption and unexpected events that free us from things that limit our authentic expression. Uranus does not tolerate restrictions. It has been moving through Taurus, the fixed earth sign that prizes stability and security, since 2018. During this time, it has asked us to evaluate if our values and the things we value, i.e., our possessions, are bringing us the sense of security that Taurus wants. Taurus likes routines and structure. The past 7.5 years have challenged us to discern whether the things we invest our time and energy in are addressing true needs that contribute to our security or if they are wants we are chasing. These are two different energies. Needs can be fulfilled. Wants can't. Wanting always leads to more wanting. Used correctly, wants can be expansive and playful - an exploration from a state of curiosity - "wouldn't it be fun if....". This type of wanting comes from a secure foundation where needs are honored first. Alternatively, want's shadow expression keeps us focused on where we are dissatisfied or feel we are lacking. "If only..." is what that type of wanting says. That is an uncomfortable place, and Taurus really hates being uncomfortable. That is wants trying to fill the void of unmet needs. It doesn't work because it's the wrong tool.

Uranus is in the final weeks of its transit through Taurus. Under this New Moon, we can no longer deny the awareness of the things we have been investing in that are not providing lasting benefits. The decisions we make now will allow us to cross the threshold into a new Aries season without dragging residue from old patterns. The Spring equinox will be the start of a new cycle, with the Sun activating the 0 degrees of Aries point that Saturn and Neptune met at on February 20th. That conjunction on that point - the very first degree of the very first sign, has not happened before in recorded history. The Sun will then move first to connect with Neptune at 1 degree of Aries and then, a few days later, with Saturn at 4 degrees of Aries. Whatever the Sun touches is illuminated. The themes of those planets and points come into conscious awareness. Notice what comes up for you during the last 2 weeks of March about how to embody your values and your beliefs. Neptune is asking what dreams you want to focus on; Saturn is bringing the discipline and realistic appraisal that will allow you to bring them into the world.

The equinox will also be the end of Mercury retrograde, and the start of all planets in direct motion for approximately 6 weeks. The insights you received during this Mercury retrograde cycle are asking to be addressed. Check out the post on Mercury retrograde in Pisces for a review of those themes. There will be a lot of forward momentum, making it a great time to initiate actions that help you more fully embody the version of you that you are evolving into.

There is no precedent for these times. This combination of planetary cycles has never been before, so we can't look to the past for guidance. Where we have been is useful in showing how we got here, not so much where we are going. Aries is a pioneering sign, courageous and optimistic. As a cardinal sign, it takes action; it's an initiator, an igniter. This next stage of the year asks us to walk the talk, to demonstrate our values through our behaviors. It's time to do the things that are aligned to your intended outcomes. We don't have a map for this next part of the path. We are creating it as we go. If you wait for it all to be clear, you will miss the chance to contribute to what is being birthed. The trick is to embody the state of being you want more of - peace, calm, abundance, happiness...feel it; wrap it around you and take it out into the world with you, seeding that frequency wherever you go.
