New Moon in Taurus 4*27*25
There's a lot going on with Sunday afternoon's New Moon in Taurus so let's unpack it. On Sunday afternoon, the Sun and Moon meet up at 7 degrees of Taurus, marking the Taurus New Moon. New Moons are times of new beginnings. They signify a shift in focus to the qualities of the sign they fall in. Taurus is the fixed earth sign. It is grounded and practical. It values stability and consistency. Taurus takes the ideas and inspirations generated by Aries and brings them into the material world. It realizes them i.e., makes them real. Aries is an active, rambunctious energy; Taurus not so much. Taurus operates at a pace that is comfortable and does not do well when rushed. This is a good time to slow down and let your energy reserves replete. This can look like going to bed a little earlier a few nights a week, taking a break from devices for a few hours, or taking 3 deep breaths every hour to cool off your nervous system.
Taurus Energy: Practical and Body-Based
Taurus deals with possessions, resources, values, and finances. How do you demonstrate your values? How do you develop your resources? What do you consider to be your assets? Are you focused solely on the material ones like your car, your home, your 401k? Do you also recognize your strength, your intelligence, your wit, your time, and your compassion? How about your self regard? Taurus, the earth sign, is the doorway to what matters to you. This New Moon is a good time to evaluate how aligned your resources and your values are. It's also a good time to get practical about your resources and how you plan on developing them. Taurus New Moons are a great time to revisit your budget and reevaluate spending habits. Taurus is practical but not austere. You can be realistic without denying yourself pockets of pleasure.
Taurus energy is grounded in the senses. In fact, it is the most sensual sign because it is so connected to the body. Physical comfort matters greatly. The chair that is too hard, the waistband that is too tight, the fabric that is scratchy, the unappetizing food - all are detrimental to the Bull's wellbeing. How are you treating your body? Are you caring for it or criticizing it? How do you speak about and to yourself? Do your words express appreciation or irritation about your physical condition? Do you pay attention to your body's messages or do you disregard them? Do you deny yourself sufficient rest or nourishment? What are you ingesting? You digest everything - every morsel, but also every thought and experience, whether uplifting or depleting. Notice what you are feeding yourself and asking of your body.
If you have been avoiding making needed changes, the Taurus New Moon might be the the perfect time. Taurus isn't great at making changes (fixed signs never are), but no other sign has the endurance of the Bull. What is started under this New Moon has a good chance of being continued to the desired end goal. The strategy for Taurus season is to pick a start date and then get ready. Know your why. What is the desired outcome? Have a plan in place. Taurus does not jump into things. Take some time to prepare the environment so you have what you need. Start with the least uncomfortable change and build on it at a reasonable but predetermined pace. Small steps that build on success is the way to go during Taurus season. Don't underestimate the power of drinking one more glass of water, walking for 10 minutes after eating, skipping one sugary snack, taking 3 deep breaths, meal planning 2 dinners or saving $5 a week. You get the picture. Taurus doesn't go too far out of the comfort zone, so honor its boundaries and work with its energy.
Mars and Pluto: Will and Power
Mars at 4 degrees of Leo is opposite Pluto at 3 degrees of Aquarius, and both are challenging the Sun/Moon at 7 degrees of Taurus, forming a T-square. This is the third and final Mars - Pluto opposition in the past 6 months. Oppositions indicate a need to balance two competing motivations. While it merits its own post, for our purposes, think back to early November and early January. That is when the previous Mars-Pluto oppositions happened. This marks a conclusion or resolution to what was revealed to you then about how you express your personal power in the pursuit of your desires.
Mars is the planet of personal action; what we do to get our needs met. In Leo, Mars says "I want this; I should have it and I will openly go after it. I am determined."
Pluto in Aquarius responds "Hold on there, buckaroo. Let's not forget your actions affect others. This isn't just about you exerting your power; it is also important that you recognize the bigger picture and how it will affect the community you are part of. How are you going to go about achieving the desire? Will you honor yourself and others or will you pull the old 'ends justifies the means' approach, disregarding the collateral damage that results? It's important to balance your desires with your responsibility to the greater good."
Because the Sun/Moon are being challenged here, they add their two cents - "Listen Mars and Pluto, how about you settle down? This is not just about what you want, Mars. How much are you willing to risk for this desire of yours? Is this a long term gain or a whim? Hopefully your time in Cancer when you were retrograde earlier in the year gave you an appreciation of how to take care of yourself on a deep level. We want to make sure this is a mature expression and a worthwhile investment in wellbeing, not trying to fill an internal sense of lack with something external. And Pluto, while it's important to account for our role in community and the effect of actions on others, our obligation is to ourselves first and foremost. We need to use our possessions, our talents and resources to make sure we are secure. We can't bring our best to the world if we are not in a stable position. "
This T-square will bring up any inconsistencies about your empowerment, your values, and your boundaries. Remember with T-squares, an adjustment in attitude and approach is needed to alleviate the frustration or tension that arises from the competing priorities.
Relationship Reality Check
Finally, Saturn and Venus are conjunct at the late degrees of Pisces. Conjunctions result in a blending of energies. Venus, Taurus's ruler, addresses what we value and hold dear, including our relationships with our important others. Venus was retrograde in Pisces from March 2 through April 12, reviewing these things. This was addressed in a previous post dedicated to that retrograde, which is available on MWAstrology.com or on Substack. Venus in Pisces can be very romantic, falling in love with love and escaping into a fantasy alternate reality. Saturn in Pisces says, "Your dreams are lovely, but I am here to show you how to bring structure to them so they don't stay fantasies. Together, we can build your imagined reality in your physical reality so you can experience it. I help focus you and keep you aware of realistic aspects so you don't float away. Work with me and we can add a foundation to your beautiful imaginings so your creations can be realized." Consider what you were shown during the Venus retrograde time and, based on that, how you want to revise your approach your relationships. Your relationships are mirrors of your sense of self and internal state of being. Are you ready to be honest with yourself about what you are being shown? Saturn will keep calling you out until you are.
These are not ordinary times. 2025 has already brought a lot of astrological changes, and it will not be ending any time soon. All the outer planets are transitioning to new signs. Multiple cycles are collapsing into each other, bringing endings and beginnings. As these shifts continue, it's important to realize that there is an elegant pattern to it; there is nothing random going on. Old structures are falling. Things we thought were stable are proving not to be. Each of us is being given the opportunity to withdraw our reliance on the external noise and develop trust in ourselves. It's time to acknowledge and use our power, not to dominate or control, but to realize our agency as we honor our purpose and contribute to the creation of a better future.
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come." ~ Joseph Campbell
