New Moon in Gemini 6*14*26
At first look, the chart of this New Moon doesn't have a lot of interaction among the planets. The Sun and Moon are meeting at 24 degrees of Gemini and most of the other planets are in the earlier degrees of their signs. Still, when we pull back the lens and view this lunation as part of the larger energies in play, it reveals some unique opportunities for redefining ourselves.
Signs are archetypes, patterns of behavior, but they also are architecture for how these energy patterns express. When planets take up residence, they enliven the sign and express their energies in ways that are unique to the combination of that planet and that sign. Gemini is the mutable air sign. Air signs are "mind" focused. They engage with the world through exchange of ideas. Gemini's mutable energy means it appreciates flexibility and variety and thrives in environments of curiosity.
Uranus moved into Gemini the end of April and will stay there for the next 7 years. Gemini is the architecture of how one communicates, conveys ideas and in so doing, creates relationships with others. It is the template of how you communicate your personal ideals and how you build and maintain social connections. Uranus renovates the sign it is in. It breaks down walls, adds doorways, and modernizes the floor plan. In the process, we change how we approach the focus of that sign. In the Gemini template, Uranus reconfigures the ways one connects and shares ideas. Gemini is not all that concerned with forming close relationships. That is the realm of its sister air sign Libra. Gemini prefers to interact with a wide array of social groups in a friendly way rather than create deep connection with any one group or person. As Uranus moves through Gemini we are being asked to look at our patterns of expressing our ideas and receiving and interpreting information. Are we stuck in old perspectives? Are we judging instead of being curious? Are we confusing familiarity with authenticity? Are we telling the same stories that anchor us to a version of ourselves that we have outgrown?
This current Uranus cycle started in 2011 when Uranus entered Aries. From 2011 to 2018, we were all challenged to release old perspectives about who we were. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the template of how we individuate from the greater field of humanity. Uranus transiting Aries renovated our understanding of self and challenged us to take ourselves seriously. In 2018, it moved into Taurus, where it had us review whether the environment we inhabited reflected the self we created (excavated?). What values did this new version have and did we behave in ways that reflected those values? What mattered to the new self? How were we using our resources and to what end? What patterns of consumption did we have? Did we embody this new perspective about who we are and what we want?
Now Uranus moving through Gemini advances to the way we communicate ideas and make connections. It's sparking new points of view, new understandings. At this point in the cycle we have integrated this new version and the close environment we live in. Now we move out a little further into the arena of friends, neighbors and siblings. We expand from values and resources to thoughts and ideas about how the world works and what our place might be in it. Are we willing to learn or do we stick to the echo chamber? Can we be curious about others? Are we comfortable enough in our own skin to be able to consider another's perspective without judging it or trying to force it to fit it into our cosmology? The Uranus cycle is part of a big developmental pathway. That is why it spends 7 years in each sign. This type of growth isn't meant to be rushed.
Uranus in Gemini is one aspect of the underlying current of this New Moon. A second is Chiron getting ready to leave Aries, where it has been transiting since 2018. The theme of Chiron through Aries has been making peace with the story of being too much or not enough, of being unacceptable in some way. As Chiron moves into Taurus, it will bring opportunities to heal any stories we hold about scarcity, not having our needs met, or judgements about our physical needs and how we care for them.
In the context of this New Moon, consider how you use words to make connections. What is your story? Do you agree with others out of habit, to be acceptable? Do you play the "ain't it awful?" game to connect through complaints? How does that feel? Do you edit your perspective out of concern for how it will be received? Can you express your ideas clearly or do you fumble around because you are not sure of what you think? What topics keep coming up for you in conversation, and do you want to continue to attend to them? Do they expand your vistas or keep you stuck? Perspective creates perception. What perspective are you taking? What would happen if you explored a different point of view? How might that change the story you tell?
The Full Moon in Sagittarius on May 31 brought to light your beliefs and the way you express them. It called for discernment in both what you professed to be true and how you received and processed information. Now, under this New Moon, it is time to apply those insights gained and become more intentional about the words we use and the information we choose to disseminate. Do your words and the way you deliver them reflect the version of you that you want to embody? The authentic you, the one who lives the qualities you deemed as important to you? How does this version interact with others?
The ruler of this New Moon is Mercury (because Mercury rules Gemini), which is currently in Cancer. Mercury in Cancer colors thoughts with emotion (Cancer is the cardinal water sign) and often interprets things through a lens of nostalgia. This is not a bad thing as long as you are aware of it so you don't spend a lot of time lamenting days gone by that have been wrapped in fuzzy golden memories. Mercury in Cancer brings emotions and intuition into the way you process information. It can soften the tone. It can offer you a new way of looking at your past and how it influences your current expression. It is all worth honoring, as it got you to this point, but not all of it is worth carrying forward. This New Moon brings the opportunity to revise your story. Not by editing out or deleting important aspects, but by allowing your curiosity to shift the perspective from which you view them.
Mercury, by the way, will be going retrograde in Cancer on June 29 a few hours before the Capricorn Full Moon. Now is the time to prepare your tech and your vehicles and address any potential maintenance needs. If you have travel plans towards the end of the month, build in extra time and confirm all appointments.
For now, use this New Moon as an opportunity to try a new way of expressing yourself. Take a moment to notice the patterns that come up, the expressions you use without thinking, the assumptions you make about others. Become intentional about the words you choose, the tone you use, and the stories you tell. Get curious. Play with different perspectives. "How else can I view this? What am I being shown?" That can open the door to all manner of expansion.
"The most dangerous stories we make up are the narratives that diminish our inherent worthiness. We must reclaim the truth about our lovability, divinity and creativity." ~Brene Brown
"The stories we tell literally make the world. If you want to change the world, you need to change your story." ~ Michael Margolis
