New Moon in Capricorn ⋆ 1.11.24
The first New Moon of the year is tomorrow morning at 6:58 (EST). The Sun and Moon meet at 21 degrees of Capricorn. Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign. It is practical and industrious, ambitious and serious. In the natural chart, Capricorn is located at the top. It corresponds to noon, when the daylight is at its peak. Capricorn energy is meant to be seen by the public. Capricorn is what we accomplish through our own efforts. It is how we want to be seen by the outside world, our desired reputation and social standing. Capricorn is in polarity with Cancer. Cancer is the home we create, the foundation we come from, the roots we nurture. Capricorn is what grows from those roots. It is what we build on that foundation; the success we create for ourselves, the goals we achieve. Capricorn is the sign that calls us to fulfill our purpose.
The energy of Capricorn is strategic and patient. Capricorn does not take short cuts. It is in it for the long haul, creating things that are lasting. These "things" are the physical manifestations (earth sign) of your focused action. They might be a strong relationship or a supportive family, a thriving business or a corner office, a delicious meal or an absorbing book. They point is that you choose your expression of this energy and use it to manifest your destiny.
This New Moon has an interesting energy. It feels like a fulcrum, the point where things are held, stable and balanced for a bit, like a seesaw poised to move up or down. According to Merriam-Webster.com, a fulcrum is a point that supports a moving part, like an oar or a seesaw. More broadly, it has come to mean something or someone "...deemed essential for the function or development of something."
Uranus is the only planet still retrograde. It will go direct on January 27. From then until April 1, all the planets will be direct, bringing a lot of moving energy to propel plans and situations forward. This New Moon feels like the space between the inhale and the exhale. It offers a pause to consider what you are creating for yourself "out there" in the world. Is it aligned with your beliefs and priorities? We just came off Sagittarius season which focused on just those things. The end of December we had a Full Moon in Cancer. This was the precursor and preparation for this New Moon. The focus then was on your foundation. Nurturing yourself and creating strong self-care practices to support you to show up as your best self. Now, it's time for your best self to come into the light of day, to be seen as your best self. What is essential to the development of this?
The Capricorn New Moon is the time to clarify your goals. What are you here to do? What are you being called towards? What needs to be released in order to commit to the calling? What needs to change? Capricorn is known for reality checks. It keeps its focus on the end game. It can be challenging to accept you have outgrown current conditions or you are shrinking yourself to stay in environments where you no longer fit. Capricorn New Moons are about renewing your commitment to yourself and your goals. Everything else is drag on the line and needs to be released.
It's time to create a strategy. What is required in order to move forward? What resources do you have? How will you gather what you need? The Sun and Moon are making a trine (easy flow) to Uranus in Taurus. This can offer a new perspective (Uranus) on how to best use your resources (Taurus) in unique ways (Uranus) to support your goals (Sun/Moon). They are also forming a sextile (another easy aspect) to Neptune in Pisces. Creativity and inspiration (Neptune) are available if you open to them and don't allow your logical mind to dismiss them prematurely.
Pluto and the Sun will meet at 0 degrees of Aquarius on January 20. Notice what comes up for you then, particularly regarding your relationship with power and control dramas. This especially includes self empowerment and how you best cultivate it in a positive manner. The Sun touches every planet over the course of a year, but 0 degrees of any sign is a powerful point, and the Sun has not met up with Pluto in Aquarius, much less at 0 degrees, in any of our lifetimes. This is new territory. Pluto will remain in Aquarius until September, when it will slip back into Capricorn to tie up any loose ends before moving into Aquarius in November where it will stay until 2043.
There are many energetic shifts happening, and since planets are energy, they are part of it. In 2025, all the outer planets will be moving into different signs. This is not to cause alarm. But, the reality is that we are in the midst of change. Change is uncomfortable even if we feel it is needed. These times are offering opportunities to step up, to participate in your life, and to empower you to create a fulfilling experience instead of settling for something less than your dream or pretending you don't have a say in how it unfolds.
"The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal for this year is, you can get there—as long as you're willing to be honest with yourself about the preparation and work involved. There are no back doors, no free rides. There's just you, this moment, and a choice.” ~Oprah Winfrey
