Full Moon in Cancer ⋆ 12.26.23
It's a little hard to believe we are at the final lunation for 2023. On Tuesday evening we will have a Full Moon in Cancer. The Moon at nearly 5 degrees (4 degrees 58 seconds of arc) of Cancer will be bathed in the light of the Sun at nearly 5 degrees of Capricorn. The timing, of course, is perfect; it offers a moment in the middle of the festivities to pause and recenter yourself on what matters to you.
The Cancer - Capricorn axis is about balancing home and work; inner circle and public reputation; nourishing the roots to support the growth that comes from them, whatever it might be. This axis requires true self-care so you can live up to your fullest potentials. Your contribution to the world depends on having a stable base that supports you. The Moon in its home sign of Cancer emphasizes the need to feel "at home" and resourced. It requires an inner sanctum to process emotions and create a sense of ease. Cancer is the cardinal water sign, so the world is experienced through emotions. Under a Cancer Moon, feelings will surface.
The Sun in Capricorn is concerned with achievement and being seen by the outside world in a positive and desired light. Capricorn season is a time of reaffirming your goals and ambitions. Sagittarius season brought up your guiding principles; the beliefs and ethical framework you operate from. Now, in Capricorn season, it is time to manifest in the external what you explored internally. What is your highest vision for yourself? How can you bring it into reality? Capricorn wants you to declare what you are here to contribute and what you want for yourself. The two things are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
Pluto moving through Capricorn has revealed the dysfunction in large institutions and structures, including the workplace. That doesn't mean you must be a victim of this. The message of this Full Moon and all the cycles of astrology is you get to choose. But making a choice is not the same as making a wish. Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign. It requires realistic assessment of what is needed to reach your chosen goal and a strategy to get where you want to be. Capricorn is patient and persistent, never taking its eyes off the prize.
Moon in Cancer asks what you need in order to balance being "out there" doing all the things. What nurtures your soul? What soothes your nervous system? Are you tired? Overwhelmed? Sad? Whose agenda are you aligned with - yours or someone else's? In this moment, how do you feel? Where in your body are the emotions held? Are you allowing them to inform and then be released, or are you so resistant to any discomfort that might arise you don't stop doing? Maybe it's time for a new strategy.
The Sun and Moon are making easy aspects to both Jupiter (5 degrees of Taurus) and Saturn (3 degrees of Pisces), bringing support for these shifts.
Mercury has retrograded back into Sagittarius and it is conjuncting Mars under this Full Moon. What were you shown about your ambitions and goals since 12/13 when Mercury first entered retrograde motion in Capricorn? Now is the time to act (Mars) on your beliefs (Mercury in Sagittarius) and grow beyond where you currently are. In order to do that, you need a retreat to offer sanctuary and to simply be with yourself and your support system. Allow any tumult to settle.
Consider how can you best meet your own needs so when you are "out there" you are resourced and sustained. What needs to be protected? What needs to be restored? What is one step you can take in the direction of your own wellbeing? How can you bring your joy from the back burner to the center of your life? It's time to commit - really commit - and show up for yourself.
Mercury retrograde offers a new perspective. As it goes direct on January 1, it's the perfect time to to align your purpose with your moral code and declare your North Star.
This Full Moon brings to light the need to honor your roots; to nurture yourself so you can bring the best you have out into the world. Everything is flowing in your favor.
Wishing you all the very best in 2024.
