Lunar Eclipse in Virgo 3*14*25
Welcome to the first eclipse season of 2025, which started off with this morning's Lunar Eclipse in Virgo. Lunar Eclipses are powerful Full Moons. This one is the second eclipse along the Pisces - Virgo axis. The first was on September 18, 2024 and was a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces. The shifting of the eclipse axis happens every 18 months or so, and the transition from one set of signs to the next shows up in the themes of the eclipses. For any individual, the effects depend on where the eclipses land in your chart and if they are making connections to any planets or points in your chart. That said, even if you are not strongly affected by the energies, they are permeating the planet, so everyone is feeling them to some extent.
Pisces - Virgo: Forest and Trees
In this Lunar Eclipse, the Sun at 23 degrees of Pisces is opposite the Moon at 23 degrees of Virgo. The Pisces - Virgo axis is one of service. Sun in Pisces, the mutable water sign, is clear that there is something more at play than simply the visible world. There is an invisible intelligence that connects and influences everything. There is a bigger picture. Pisces as the last sign of the zodiac, distills the experiences of all the other signs. That is why Pisces is the artist, the sign that takes all that came before and imagines something better. Pisces knows there is magic, there is wonder to be had. That is why it is so compassionate and kind. Pisces energy is aware of the fabric of life, and how we are all part of the weave.
Sometimes Pisces energy can become overwhelmed by the stormy seas of life. It's gentleness can be challenged by the energies of those who have not yet come to the higher perspective that Pisces has. They are still in the middle of the ride, so to speak. This is why boundaries are so critical for water signs in general and Pisces in particular. Water signs experience the world through emotions. It's important that they don't absorb the emotions of others, and that they have enough time to process the information they are receiving through the "feelings" and intuitive impressions they are dialed into.
A Framework for Service
This is where the balancing energy of earth signs comes in. Water signs are always opposite earth signs. In astrology this is a complementary relationship. The grounded, practical qualities of earth give water a container and a framework to prioritize and explore the information held in the emotions. Here, Virgo is that complement to Pisces. Virgo energy, as the mutable earth sign, is motivated by the need to make things better. Virgo is very very adept at seeing where systems can improve. It's detail oriented, analytical perspective is great at making changes to systems so they run more efficiently. Virgo offers Pisces a direction to focus its creative capacity and gentleness. Pisces compassion can be unfocused; Virgo says "if we do this and such, everyone will benefit. If we modify this process, we free up time and energy to apply to other things."
Unbalanced Virgo energy becomes hypercritical and focused on achieving perfection. It can lose site of the bigger picture. That is where Pisces awareness and empathy are important. They remind Virgo that there is more here than can be seen; that improvement must not come at the cost of humanity; that perfection is not the point. Care is the point. Improvement in the name of being of service to the part of the world you inhabit. Connection is the true state. While it is important to manage details, (Virgo), it must be done against the backdrop of kindness and awareness of the interrelationship of all (Pisces). Otherwise, why bother? It's soulless and that will never be satisfying, no matter how efficiently it runs.
So this Lunar Eclipse is bringing to light where each of us is losing sight of the bigger picture and the tapestry of which we are all a part in our effort to fix what we see as wrong. Where does your critical voice demand ever more from you? Do your judgements about what is wrong keep you focused on only what is wrong? Can you find connection and ease in the relationships you have with yourself, your environment, and with others? What are some small kindnesses you can offer yourself. Always start with yourself. If you don't have it, you can't extend it to others - not sustainably; not authentically; not without a steep cost that will require remediation at some point.
Small Things Add Up
Moon in Virgo needs an orderly environment to feel secure. Chaotic conditions, sloppy work, rushing and inconsiderate actions are toxic and debilitating. Start by clearing out your clutter. Organize your papers, clean out a drawer or a closet. Moon in Virgo loves a plan. It doesn't need to be perfect - repeat that as needed - it just needs to start somewhere and in a way that is easy. There are no extra points for level of difficulty. Keep it small and simple. You can always add on. Next, consider the things you are committing to, your to do list, your responsibilities. How are you managing them? Are there too many? Are you using them as distractions? Virgo energy requires time to digest. If the plate is full, stop adding more to it. No one can consume constantly. Create pauses in your life. Allow your Pisces eyes to help shift your perspective to a bigger lens. See the forest, not just the trees, as it were.
We all have these two signs in our charts somewhere, so these energies are affecting each of us and will continue to be highlighted until the next set of eclipses in September. It's time for some new behavior patterns, ones that are practically compassionate. Extend this to yourself.
Venus is still retrograde, giving opportunities to review and revise how you demonstrate your values and relate to important others. And tomorrow, Mercury will go retrograde. There will be another post on that, but the timing is not random. Mercury's retrograde is contributing to the pause needed to reorient your perspective and your responses. It is a good time to extend the declutter and organization to the information you consume and the way you express yourself, especially to your important others.
March is quite a month, astrologically, with a lot of opportunities to decide who you want to be and how you want to move through life. What old patterns are ready to be shed? What new version of yourself are you creating with each choice? It's time to make more space and slow down. Retrogrades are meant for reflection, and you can't reflect if you are always in motion. Things are blurry when you aren't still.
"Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back your work, your judgement will be surer. Go some distance away, because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony...is more readily seen." Leonardo DaVinci
