New Moon in Sagittarius ⋆ 12.12.23
Tuesday evening we have a New Moon as the Sun and Moon meet at 20 degrees of Sagittarius. New Moons are times of planting seeds or moving towards the next thing. It might be a part of a long term plan or it can be something more compact that will take place within the Moon cycle.
Sagittarius is the mutable fire sign. Its energy is optimistic, idealistic, and enthusiastic, like all fire signs. For Sagittarius, the goal is growth and expansion; moving beyond where one is by experiencing new things. The symbol for Sagittarius is the archer, arrow notched in the bow, aiming out into the distance. Where is your need for growth focused? Where might you be feeling hemmed in by your current situation?
Sagittarius is concerned with morals and ethics; the philosophical "whys" underlying the world in which we live. Once these foundational beliefs are established in Sagittarius, we move into earthy Capricorn season where we build the structures of our world. For example, government (a Capricorn structure) is founded on a set of ideological beliefs anchored into "big picture" truths like equality, fairness, and justice; the inalienable rights to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." (Sagittarius). While this example is in the macro, it applies to our own microcosms as well. The way we move through the world needs to align with our own belief system. If it doesn't, there will be an uncomfortable disconnect that will ooze into all aspects of your life and sow discord.
So, under this Sagittarius New Moon, what beliefs are you holding to, and are they still supporting you? Have you exercised your own critical thinking and incorporated your experiences in your interpretation of the larger truths of your life, or have you accepted the beliefs of others without truly considering if they suit you? What was relevant and resonate in the past might not be so any longer. That we are always changing is undeniable, but we can choose whether the change expands or narrows our perspective.
We are not who we were when this year began. This is the time to notice where we have grown. The New Moon in Sagittarius offers the opportunity to recognize an expanded perspective. What experiences this year shifted your view of how the world works, of what is appropriate and what is not; of how you wish to focus your energy? Is your life's work still aligned with your moral code? Are you walking your talk? Are you willing to let go of outdated perspectives that are holding you back? Are you willing to move beyond your expertise and explore something new? Are you willing to check your ego and enter the uncomfortable space of being a novice? Are you willing to not know and be teachable? Is the thought of this uncomfortable? What emotion comes up? Where in the body does it live? What came into your awareness under the Gemini Full Moon 2 weeks ago? Are you willing to explore these themes? If not, why?
The Sun and Moon are making a challenging aspect to Neptune at 24 degrees of Pisces. Neptune in Pisces connects us to the spiritual realm. It brings the awareness of something divine expressing through each of us. The challenge here is to integrate our personal beliefs (Sun/Moon in Sagittarius) with our soul's knowing of our highest wisdom (Neptune in Pisces). Something requires an adjustment. Can you trust yourself and your own guidance or do you default to others? Your inner wisdom refuses to scream to get your attention. It doesn't need to convince your ego of anything. It simply waits quietly for you to recognize its worth.
Mercury in Capricorn is slowing down to turn retrograde on December 13. There will be a separate post on that shortly. For now, recognize this as the opportunity to slow down and allow ourselves to consider these themes. That is the point to Mercury retrograde times - a pause to review how we express ourselves and reorient our priorities as needed. Gift yourself this time and use it as it is intended.
As always, thank you for your time and sharing these posts. Wishing you a beautiful holiday season.
