New Moon in Libra 10*21*25
The New Moon in Libra on Tuesday morning is the first of six consecutive New Moons falling at 28 degrees of their respective signs. While it is not uncommon to have lunations repeat degrees for three, four or even five months, six is a lot. Then again, most of the astrology of this year is "a lot". Looking back, the last time we had six New Moons at the same degree was five years ago in late 2020 into early 2021.
Twenty eight is not a "critical degree" but like planets, numbers carry vibration. I am not a numerologist, but the combined energies of "2" - patience, partnership, cooperation and "8" - right use of power, expression of will to create life experiences, seem aligned to this New Moon. Libra is the cardinal air sign. Cardinal signs take action; air signs experience the world through ideas. They live in the mental realm. Libra is the only sign with a nonliving symbol, which reflects the detached objectivity that air signs are known for. Libra takes action to achieve balance between self and important others we are in relationship with so as to create partnership that meet the needs of each partner. This can be a tall order.
Libra marks a turning point in the astrological year which starts on the Spring equinox when the Sun moves into Aries. In the zodiac cycle, the signs Aries through Virgo are focused on development of the self. Even when interacting with others, the priority is refinement of our understanding and expression of who we are and who we are becoming. Aries is the spark of individuality, the individuation into a separate person. Taurus addresses the individual's possessions and values, things that build a secure foundation. Gemini emphasizes how the individual expresses ideas, aquires new information, and interacts with others. Cancer shows how the individual creates a sense of "home" and stability; a nurturing foundation from which to grow. From the tending of this foundation, Leo expands into the social sphere, where the individual is exploring creative self-expression, flexing leadership skills, and having fun. When Virgo comes online, the focus shifts to daily routines and taking care of responsibilities to both self and others.
Ideally, by the time it's Libra season the individual has developed a healthy sense of self who is able to honor and express their ideas, beliefs, values, and needs. Boundaries are anchored into a strong foundation of self-care. This person is now ready and able to connect with important others on a deeper level, beyond casual or professional exchanges. It's in Libra that we are able to hold space for both our own needs and goals and those of the other. We can collaborate and cooperate while maintaining our unique individuality.
If the developmental stages are incomplete or interrupted, it will affect how we approach our significant relationships. Close relationships are the theme of Libra New Moons. The Aries Full Moon on October 6 revealed something about your relationships. What came to light for you then? Have you been noticing and pondering your interactions with your important others? Have you paid attention to how you describe your relationships, both past and present? Are there stories that need a rewrite? You're the only one responsible for your story. If there is a victim narrative, it's time to lose it and embody your power.
This is an opportunity to move beyond old patterns and make choices that reinforce the version of you that you know yourself to be on your best days. This is the self that shows up when you have committed to and invested in your wellbeing first - the self that is gracious, generous, kind, and able to be fully present with their important others. This self has no hidden agenda and is not dependent on another for their self-esteem. There is no need to try to control conditions in order to feel secure.
Relationships are mirrors. What are yours reflecting to you about you? Are you looking to another to fill a perceived lack? It is time to stop outsourcing things that need to be generated internally. One big clue is if frustration and resentment are showing up often. Can you access some of Libra's airy detachment and see these uncomfortable emotions as indicators of imbalance and ineffective patterns? Can you be objective and honestly accept the insights you are receiving from that perspective? Are you willing to forgo blame, excuses, and rationalizations that make you feel better but keep you stuck?
This New Moon is an opportunity to approach your partnerships in new ways; to seed new perspectives and expectations in your close relationships; to step into a new expression of yourself - the one you have been keeping under wraps because somewhere you got the notion that it is either too much or not enough. Whose judgement are you reacting to? What could change if instead of denying it, you embrace and partner with that version of you and integrated it fully into your life?
"The most important distinction anyone can ever make in their life is between who they are as an individual and their connection with others." ~Anne Linden
